What is Yu Man Race?

The Yu Man Race Fitrace is a fitness race with 8 runs and 8 stations, like HYROX but with shorter runs: 800 m in the standard format and 400 m in the shorter one. The stations follow the familiar order from the SkiErg to the wall balls.

How the Fitrace works

Run 800 m (or 400 m), complete a station, run again, eight times. The clock runs from start to finish. The shorter runs make the stations count for a bigger share of your time than in HYROX.

Stations and standards

Weights and reps per category are set by the organiser and can change per edition; check yumanrace.com before a simulation. The timer has both the 800 m and the 400 m format ready and lets you edit every station.

How to train for the Fitrace

With short runs you are never far from the next station, so train stations at race pace with short runs in between. A simulation with splits shows where the time goes; most athletes lose it on the sled and the wall balls.

Tips for race day

  • Run the 800 m at a tempo you can hold eight times, not at your 800 m best.
  • Push the sled in half lengths with a short breath in between if full lengths break you.
  • Grab the rope far out on the sled pull and walk backwards in a deep squat.
  • Wall balls in fixed sets: steady beats fast and stalling.

Weights, reps and rules per division are set by the organiser and can change per season. Check yumanrace.com for the current standards. Yu Man Race is a trademark of its owner; this page is an independent explanation.

Questions

Yu Man Race questions

8 × 800 m of running (6.4 km) or 8 × 400 m (3.2 km) plus 8 stations.

The eight stations are similar, but the runs are 800 m or 400 m instead of 1 km, so the race is shorter and the stations weigh heavier in the total time.

Yes. Open the Yu Man Race timer: the 800 m course is set up (the 400 m one is a click away), you time several athletes at once and track splits per station.
